Photos: Justin Bieber Beaten to a Bloody Pulp

'People just need to take a chance and listen,' said Bieber of his upcoming 'Believe.'

On the cover of Complex's April issue, Justin Bieber -- son of a former MMA fighter -- is bruised and bloody in the boxing ring. In his cover story, the 18-year-old star appears much less beaten, confidently talking about his success, his relationship with fellow pop star Selena Gomez and his feminine side.

Unlike many teen couples in Hollywood, Bieber and Gomez have been very open about their relationship, whether photographed making out on a beach vacation or exchanging cutesy tweets. In his interview, Bieber says that hiding their relationship would be "unfair and unhealthy."

"There's no way to hide the relationship completely, because then it would be unfair to us," he said, joking about the "James Bond" tactics necessary to dodge paparazzi and date in secret.

While Bieber's Complex photos are sweaty and bloody -- about as stereotypically masculine as he could be -- recently the pop superstar was photographed for V magazine, in a shoot that was seen by critics as being very feminine. "Every guy has feminine qualities," Bieber said in response to the photos. "You're raised by your mother and father, and I was raised mostly by my mother. I think the pictures turned out good -- so whatever."

Bieber also discussed his upcoming third studio album "Believe," on which he has collaborated with big name artists from Drake to Usher. There's a lot of hype surrounding the release, and even the Biebs is extremely confident about the album.

"There's no point in doing this if I'm not going to be the best," Bieber said to Complex. "I give up a personal life. I give up my friends and family to pursue what I love and to make my fans happy. Why would I give up so much to be just another singer?"

Beliebers should expect something new on the star's follow-up to 2010's "My World 2.0," as both Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun say the teen has grown up -- lyrically and musically -- on his latest effort. "People just need to take a chance and listen. If they don't want to take a chance, then I don't know," Bieber mused. "That's going to be the biggest problem, to make them feel like it's cool for them to like my music."
