Christmas has been ruined for hundreds of homeowners

forced out by floods as forecasters warned of more heavy rain and travel chaos up to the New Year.In north Devon the town of Braunton's River Caen burst its banks and homes and shops were struck with rising flood water levels.Homes have also been evacuated in Angus and Aberdeenshire in Scotland and emergency food has been flown into the Shetland Isles after ferries were cancelled due to the rough weather.Britain as a whole has been struck by wet weather but the worst affected areas are in the South and South West, where months of rain mean the ground is already saturated. The wet weather, that is caused by regular ‘pulses’ of low pressure coming in off the Atlantic, is expected to last for the next week.
