CES: Samsung says its planning 'something exciting' for MWC

LAS VEGAS: KOREAN PHONE MAKER Samsung has told The INQUIRER that it's planning 'something big' for Mobile World Congress, explaining the reason for lack of new smartphones at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

We caught up with Samsung at its stand at the Las Vegas tech show today, and grilled the Galaxy S3 maker about why it hasn't announced any new smartphones at this year's CES. A spokesperson told us that the firm is planning "something exciting" for MWC in Barcelona next month, although added that everything is a tightly-guarded secret at present.

The launch may be a secret at the moment, but the spokesperson added that Samsung added that Samsung will be launching multiple devices at MWC. Of course, we had to ask whether we'd be seeing the firm's next-gen flagship at the Barcelona technology show, the Samsung Galaxy S3, but it was unable to comment at present. We're doubting that we'll see the long-rumoured S4 at MWC, though, as Samsung has recently opted for an Apple-style launch events.

Last year for example, Samsung announced its Galaxy S3 smartphone at a glitzy launch event in London, as it looks to create the hype surrounded by its rivals iPhone and iPad launch events.Instead, we're probably likely to see Samsung's latest mid and low range smartphones - a new addition to its budget Galaxy Ace range, or a cheap altertive to its top end Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 smartphones. Of course, as well as CES, we'll be at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, so be sure to check back to see what it has got in store.
