Now, the talented teens look set to follow in Susan Boyle’s footsteps as their audition has become the must-see clip on YouTube, with over 550,000 views in the UK alone.
When Simon Cowell made the decision to return to the Britain’s Got Talent panel this year, he announced that he wanted to find an act that had global appeal and Jonathan and Charlotte could be the answer to his prayers, as their performance has had over 250,000 views outside the UK.
Comparisons to 2009 BGT star Su-Bo have delighted the young singers and why not, the Scottish star is undoubtedly the most famous and successful talent show contestant in the world (although One Direction are having a good go at stealing her crown).
Jonathan said: “It’s great to be compared to her [Susan Boyle], although we want to be seen as individual in our own way.”
Jonathan knows he is not your conventional, perfectly groomed pop starlet but neither he nor Charlotte have any great desire to change their appearance for fame.
The 17-year-old said: “I know I don’t look like a standard performer.
“I just went out there in my normal clothes, so I expected there would be a little bit of a reaction.”
He admitted that he wouldn’t say no to some free clothes (who could blame him) but that he would never cut off his long hair.
Charlotte agreed: “I wouldn’t want to change my image. People should be able to accept you for what you are.”
And it seems they are, as the delightful duo continue to be the most talked about act of the series so far… but there’s only be one show. Who will capture the hearts of the nation this week? We’ll find out when Britain’s Got Talent returns this Saturday at 8.
