THE mother of cancer-stricken Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has flown from America to be with him as he lies in a coma in hospital.
Fears for Robin are growing, and mum Barbara, 91, is said to be “beside herself”as she faces the nightmare of burying a third son.
She believes her family is cursed, like the Kennedy dynasty in the US.
Barbara’s youngest son Andy died of heart trouble in 1988, aged just 30, and brother Maurice, 53, passed away in 2003 after surgery to repair a twisted intestine.
Robin, 62, who has been fighting liver and colon cancer, has deteriorated rapidly in the last 48 hours after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
He was unconscious in a London clinic last night. Wife Dwina and son Robin-John, 29, are with Barbara at his bedside, as are brother Barry, 65, and Robin’s children from his first marriage, Spencer, 39, and Melissa, 37.
A friend said: “Everyone is very worried now. All the closest family have been advised to remain at the hospital and they are taking it hour by hour, praying for a miracle.
“But with Robin, they know never to give up.”
A source close to the family said Robin had endured a “devastating” two weeks.
He was desperate to be well enough to attend Tuesday’s premiere of Titanic Requiem, the classical work he wrote with Robin-John to mark the centenary of the disaster.
But illness kept him away from the Royal Albert Hall and the disappointment took its toll.
The source said: “The one aim Robin had was to be present at the requiem premiere. It was his motivation, passion and goal throughout the battle against cancer.
“His spirit has been shattered since the pneumonia and he has gone visibly downhill. Before he went into the coma, he was struggling to get out of bed without the aid of a wheelchair.”
There will NEVER be another sound like the BeeGees ever again! I am the same age as Barry Gibb, 65 y.o., and am ever so grateful they came along in my time. I grew up with them and they gave me, and everyone else who loved them, the most wonderful memories and happiness just listening to the perfecly matched blending of their voices. Their harmony was like no other. The garbage that is being turned out today can not hold a candle to what they gave this world. I thank God for the beauty of their songs and their voices. Now 2 of them are gone forever like Davy Jones. All we have are the wonderful memories we will have until we join them. You will be missed forever.
