Shelina Permalloo named MasterChef 2012 winner for 'frugal delights'

Shelina Permalloo has been crowned winner of MasterChef 2012 after her heady aromatics and frugal attitude proved to be the right ingredients for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

She fought off several weeks of intense competition - including from fellow finalists Andrew Kojima and Tom Rennolds - to become only the second woman to win the BBC1 show in eight years.

Ms Permalloo peerless menu was an Octopus starter, mutton curry and a dessert of mango cannelloni filled with lime curd.
Torode and Wallace said the 29-year-old, from Tooting, south London, brought ‘sunshine to a plate’.

She was taught by her Mauritian mother and described the cuisine as ‘very frugal which is great in these economic times but at the same time full of flavour’.
